Log Chapel & Church Programs

There is a monthly church service held at the log chapel, officiated by Walter and Helen Hamm of Riverton, MB.

Summer Bible Camp is held in July annually. This camp is operated by Springfield Heights Mennonite Church. Daily Vacation Bible Camp held here in August annually by the Grace Mennonite Church from Winkler. Please contact the Community Council office at (204) 276-2150 for more information.

Community Development Corporation

The local Community Development Corporation (CDC) was developed to purchase land on Matheson Island to promote community growth. The CDC presently has one residential lake front lot for sale. The size is approximately 100'x250'. Please contact the Community Council office at (204) 276-2150 for more information.

History Book

The History Book of Matheson Island was completed by Edith & Neill von Gunten in 2003. The book consists of 620 pages, which includes photographs and the history of Matheson Island and surrounding areas. The book is titled "From Paddles to Propellers - The History of Matheson Island, a Fishing Community". Copies of this book are available for $50 through the local Community Council, whom can be contacted at (204) 276-2150.

Cookbook

We also have a cookbook which was compiled by current, previous and surrounding community residents. The community residents of Matheson Island are well known for their cooking. Many of these recipes originated from our ancestors and have been passed down through the years. It is a book which is loved by many! Copies of this book are available for $15 through the local Community Council, whom can be contacted at (204) 276-2150.

Recreation Committee

We have an active committee which holds a bi-weekly bingo in the community.

The proceeds from the bingo go towards local recreation and other various community/school projects.
